2009 has come and gone. We start
2010 with hope, prayers, and enthusiasm for a bright, happy and great
year. At least for a better one. Let's talk about New Year's resolutions.
If we had made any (you know the usual ones like lose weight, exercise
more, swear less, say this auction is the best one yet) I would have broken
them all already. What we do resolve and will try hard not to break is
that we will offer you a continued selection of glasses that feature high
end, low end, and everything in between. Try to offer interesting, different
and unusual items to help your collection grow. Come to think of it that
is just what Auction #102 offers.
Starting this auction we feature
some of the really hard glasses to find. Items #1 and #2 are from the
Disney, 1942 Donald Duck series and Item #3 is from the very early Alice
in Wonderland set.
Items #4, #5, #6, and #7 are a
real treat for Superman fans, Coca Cola collectors, and you that collect
only the very hardest to find glasses. I know of no one who has a complete
set of these Coca Cola sponsored Superman glasses from Spain. Talking
to collectors in Spain, they do not even have them. Rarely offered for
sale this is a must. The #2 glass has a small rim chip and one has a slightly
faded spot but these glasses are so rare that these small flaws can be
over looked.
Coca Cola seems to dominate our
early listings and it is no mistake. These are all tough, hard to find
items. In addition to the Superman glasses we offer the following:
#8 is a Coca Cola test glass featuring
a counted cross stitch quilt.
#10 is the Edmonton, Canada Plant
opening glass that we did not even have in our very large Coca Cola collection.
#11 is from Lancaster High School.
One of the very hard to find High School Crest glasses from Coca Cola.
#12 is a stained glass look test glass with a blank space where there
would normally be the name of a business. #14 is a test glass for the
Coca Cola Sundblom Santa glasses. We think this one is much nicer than
the ones issued.
#15 is believed to be a Collegiate
Crest test glass without the Coca Cola information on it. Looks like the
Collegiate Crest series and was found among a large group of Coca Cola
Collegiate Crest glasses.
#17 is the very hardest of glasses
from the near impossible set of Coca Cola Baseball Greats - Pete Rose.
As far as condition of the glass, this is the best glass I have ever seen
from this set.
#21 and #22 are two different sizes
of the stain glass look glasses. Each features the initials "H.J.C."
A prominent Coca Cola person had a limited number of these glasses made
to give out. Tough find.
#23 is a 8 3/4" carafe featuring
the sepia Coca Cola lady that is so common on a set of flair glasses.
This carafe is extremely uncommon and is believed to be a test item.
#24 is a very hard to find mug
from the 1987 Kansas City Area Coca Cola Commitment campaign.
You will find many more Coca Cola
glasses scattered throughout the auction.
Among the many other older glasses
are #25 and #26. These two are from the almost impossible to find Canadian
Popeye set. The condition of these two older glasses is unbelievably good.

We did not forget you Pepsi Cola
collectors either. Starting with the Callahan's Blues Burgers, Item #9,
the Pepsi name or logo appears on a large number of items.
#13 is a champagne goblet with
the Burger King and Pepsi logos. It is believed that these goblets were
used at a dinner where the agreement between the two companies was announced.
#16 is a very hard to find glass
from the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. It is sponsored by McDonald's and
features Sam the Eagle in a swimming pose. Questions as to whether this
series of glasses was ever issued remain unanswered.
#19 is also a McDonald's item.
The small 4 5/8" goblet is from the Battle Creek, MI opening of store
#5299. Very unusual.
Item #20 is truly a rare and tough
to find glass. Until a collector found the glass, none of the largest
Pepsi Cola collectors in the country knew of this Pepsi Cola Bottling
Company of Ft. Lauderdale - Palm Beach glass. Very unusual stained glass
look, it is believed to be a plant opening glass.
Two versions of the Pepsi sponsored
Thought Factory glasses were issued. The common set of ten and then like
Item #27, a boxed set of six for a 1980 Las Vegas convention, featuring
a Pepsi Food Service Division logo. Just to help the Thought Factory
collectors, Item #18 is a place mat with Thought Factory pictures on each
side, as well as a Pepsi logo.
Up for auction are a number of
glasses with the Brockway Glass Company test sticker on the base. Item
#28 - Porky Pig, B/WL; Item #29 - Tweety, B/LUN; and Item #147 - Simon
Bar Sinister - has a sticker and also does NOT have the Leonardo TTV name
on the glass.
Here is a look at a large number
of items offered without comment. In the past we have had pages of pictures
of glasses not listed in the Tomart book. We also had our "It's in
the Auction" article highlighting some of the better and more interesting
glasses. Starting with Auction #102 we will have a longer article with
more information and more pictures. There will no longer be "picture
pages" printed in the newsletter. Instead of providing pictures of
the glasses not listed in Tomart's book, we will now post on our web site
pictures of ALL items in the auction. Please note that if you do not have
a computer or access to our web page let us know and we will supply you
with a printed copy in time for each auction going forward. This is a
procedure that many of you have requested so here it is. Let us have your
comments.

Check out the large
number of Super Heroes. A lot of the moon series are offered in both DC

six Mickey Mouse Club glasses; set of four showing Mickey and Minnie in
the different colored convertibles with their names vertically on the

glass from a very limited production. Extremely rare and hard to find
glass.
#154 is a McDonald's 10,000 store,
Dale City , VA , Official Tasting glass.
